Railroad Oops!

Don't think the boss man was happy this day..

In the picture above you see what happens when a cross tie fails and crumbles under the weight of a passing train.
Two cars carrying rolls of paper proved to much for the old rail line and the ties failed causing the train to lean sharply and roll on it side.
Rolls of paper that wont making to the newspaper for printing..

The wheels have been set to the side by a crane. They will come back later and place them on the tracks and then put the cars back on them. They will then be taken back for repairs and placed back into service.
The railroad that leases this from Norfolk Southern Railroad is very bad about not keeping up the rail line. They have had numerous accidents and its just a matter of time before hazardous chemicals are involved...

While shooting the derailment area the local was working some freight on some nearby tracks a few blocks over. Here is a ES40, shuffling cars on a siding.
A couple of SD40's running a small freight, heading south, passes though..

Anybody home?

Shooting late afternoon shots at a local lake. I noticed a furry little leg sticking out of a birdhouse. I recognized it as a squirrel leg and touched it with my lens hood of my camera lens
It was a family of flying squirrels! Something you don't see a lot of around here. He ran out of the birdhouse and then quickly back in.
Quick portrait of the happy couple before leaving...

where my heart is....

..looking forward to being here again.

Sometimes you just put down the camera and stare. Taking it all in. Hours may pass and you haven't moved. This year I want to do more of that. Live in the moment and not be driven to find that next perfect shot. How many miles I have driven in search of a particular picture and missed so many hidden before me..Not this year...
